Christian counselling is founded on biblical principles, with Scripture forming the cornerstone of the counselling process.

Dr Gerhard Niemann places particular emphasis on hope and God’s work in each individual’s life. Hope provides meaning, purpose, and direction, replacing despair and hopelessness with renewed faith and purpose.

The aim is to guide individuals towards personal significance and lasting transformation through biblical principles — replacing despair and worthlessness with a revitalised sense of hope at the core of one’s being.

Dr Niemann welcomes individuals from all Christian denominations and backgrounds and provides counselling in a respectful, non-denominational manner.

How can we help?

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with all Christian denominations?

Yes. Care is respectful and non-denominational, welcoming all Christian traditions. Your convictions guide the process; the aim is pastoral care rooted in Scripture, dignity, and compassion.

Is this different from psychological counselling?

Pastoral counselling is explicitly faith-integrated, drawing on Scripture and Christian theology alongside evidence-informed methods. It can complement psychological counselling where appropriate. Clinically complex presentations are supported ethically, with referral to specialised psychological or psychiatric care if indicated (HPCSA-aligned).

Can I attend online?

Yes. Secure video sessions are available across South Africa. We can also provide a brief tech check to ensure a smooth connection before your first session.

How many sessions are typical?

This varies by person and concern. Many find 6–8 sessions helpful initially, meeting weekly or fortnightly. We’ll review progress together and adjust the plan to your needs.

Can couples attend pastoral counselling together?

Yes. Couples (and families, where appropriate) are welcome. Sessions may be a mix of joint and individual meetings to support clarity, communication, and restoration.
